WHO vaccinates over 350000 people against cholera in Adamawa

More than 350,000 have been treated against Cholera in Adamawa. This was contained in the Nigeria Health Emergencies Programme 2018 mid-year report of the World Health Organization (WHO), made available to journalists on Thursday in Yola.

The report clearly showed that WHO made provisions for the technical and financial support for the immunisation in Mubi North, Mubi South, and Maiha Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

It was also stated in the report that the organization created a treatment centre for Cholera during the outbreak in May and employed 35 health workers on ad-hoc based arrangement so as to provide immediate response to the outbreak.

The Cholera supplied materials includes ringers lactate, fluid giving sets, cannulas, ORS, antibiotics, and infection prevention and control materials,’’ the report stated.

It further added that the World Health Organization sent out some of its mobile health teams so as to disinfect household as well as engaged health workers to conduct geo-coordinate mapping which helped focused intervention.

On the other hand, WHO has kick started a two-day capacity strengthening workshop on health reporting during emergencies in Yola for some journalists selected from Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States respectively.
