UPDATE: INEC extends deadline for PVC collection

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has increased the deadline date for the permanent voters cards (PVC) collection by three days.

The collection of the PVC was scheduled to end today 8th February. The commission has now extended it to the 11th of February.

Mahmoud Yakubu, who is the chairman of INEC, stated that the decision was made due to the complaints received by the agency.

He made this known while speaking at the opening of a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) in Abuja on Friday.

He said that the extension was given to help all eligible Nigerians to carry-out their voting rights by collecting their PVCs.

During the exercise, all officials will work on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 6pm, he said.

There have been several complaints by so many Nigerians due to the difficulties they encountered while trying to collect their PVCs.

It has been all over the news lately how INEC in many states complained that hundreds of thousands of PVCs were still to be collected.

A voter cannot vote in any polling center if he or she doesn’t have a PVC.

On Wednesday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) complained that so many people have not been able to collect their PVC and urged INEC to increase the deadline date for the card collection.
