UNICEF re-establishes Child Protection Programme in Kaduna

On Monday, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) stated that it has re-established a child protection programme in Kaduna state so as to promote the protection of all children against violence.

The Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Kaduna, Dr Zakari Adams, made this know during the opening of 2019 mid-year Review and Planning Meeting in Kaduna, also added that the programme would further promote child rights.

Dr Adams explained that the programme was taken to the Northeast in 2015 where child protection issues was on the increase and there was every need for it to be tackled.

It was reintroduced so to keep in check violence against children which take place in homes, schools, families, communities and other places where children by default are supposed to feel safe.

According to Dr Adams, all these could be achieved by strengthening the child protection system.

“UNICEF will do its best to provide technical support to Kaduna state government so as to make sure that all action plans are implemented to ensure that adequate protection, growth and development of children,” he added.

The Director, Development Aid Coordination of the state’s Planning and Budget Commission, Malam Salisu Lawal, praised UNICEF for the continued support.
