Suspects arrested for setting St. Augustine Catholic Church on Fire in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Government stated that three suspects have so far been arrested in a link to Friday’s attack on St. Augustine Catholic Church, Tudun-Wada Kaduna.

A statement by Samuel Aruwan, the spokesperson to the state government, made available to newsmen in Kaduna, stated that full investigation has begun on the incident and those indicated will be prosecuted.

The state government also praised the students of Kaduna Polytechnic who were able to put out the fire which burnt the altar of the church.

“The Management of Kaduna Polytechnic was thanked by the government for sending out firefighters to the scene when students raised the alarm of fire in the premises of the Church which shares a fence with the institution.

“A state government team, led by Samuel Aruwan, spokesman of Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, has visited the church and conveyed the government’s message of sympathy to the priests and congregation.

“Aruwan also represented the government at a meeting held at Ungwan Sanusi Divisional Police Headquarters, with representatives of the church, led by Rev. Father Anthony Ikhenoba, Dean Northern Deanery, Dr. Daniel Attar, Chairman Parish Council and the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Mohammed Yusuf.

“The government of Kaduna State appeal to residents to uphold peace and harmony, rejecting all those who seek to divide and report anyone engaged in violence.”
