Palliatives: Kaduna targets phone users buying below N200 airtime monthly — El-Rufai

The executive governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that the sharing of relief materials in the state for the month of May would be targeted at those people who recharge their phone lines with not more than N200 airtime a month.

The Governor spoke on Saturday on The Platform on Channels TV, said coronavirus-impact aid for the month would be worth the sum of N2 billion.

He stated that the fund was gotten from private donors and a 50 per cent pay cut imposed on top political appointees and senior civil servants in the state.

“We have in our possession the data of the people in Kaduna State using their phone recharge purchase records,” he stated. “We believed that anybody that spends less than N200 per month on buying recharge cards on his phone is poor and will need this food for intervention.”

While those who are too poor to even acquire a phone, community and religious leaders would be engaged to identify them.

Governor El-Rufai further described the distribution of palliatives in the month of April as “abuse of trust” by persons entrusted with the distribution. He stated that it won’t repeat itself in the month of May.

“We have (their) phone numbers and also their addresses too. We will just call you and deliver these food items to (their) houses,” he said.

“We are very confident that this second round will be more targeted. We will get to those that are really poor from their phone records.”
