Over 800 People Killed in Southern Kaduna Attacks, Says Catholic Church
Not less than 800 persons have been murdered in the recent attacks on communities by Fulani Herdsmen in Southern part of Kaduna state.
This was stated by the Catholic Church Archdiocese of Kafanchan.
This was contained in a statement by Reverend Father Ibrahim Yakubu, who is the Vicar General of the diocese, stating that a total of 53 villages have so far been attacked and 57 people injured.
The Church also made accusations that the government alongside the security agencies are not doing enough to safeguard the people of the area from being attacked by the armed bandits.
Yakubu stated, “A total of four Local Government Areas have been attacked, with more than 800 people murdered and 1,422 houses, 16 Churches, 19 shops, and one primary school destroyed.
The Church demands that the attacks in the area should be stopped immediately and also demanded that all families that lost their properties and loved ones should be adequately compensated. Further called for the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry be put in place to investigate the causes of the crisis.
“We urge all the people of Southern Kaduna to keep praying harder, stay united, strong and remain hopeful that things will change.
“Tribalism and denominational differences should not in any point in time tear us apart.”
