Prof. Murtala Sagagi, who is the Dean of Dangote Business School, Bayero University Kano, stated that currently there are more than four million jobless people in Kano because of the poor development agenda of successive governments.

The dean made this known in a paper given at a forum which was organized by the Kano Concerned Citizens Initiative (KCCI) on Saturday in Kano.

“The state has remained where it is and backward due to the inability of politicians, communities, academicians and other relevant stakeholders to collaborate in comprehensive strategies for economic development and prosperity of the state.

In Kano today, more than 500 industries at the moment are shut down due to lack of consensus for development and effective implementation of government agendas and policies,’’ Sagagi noted.

He made it clear that even though the efforts of government to revamp the agricultural sector, more needs to be done to revitalize it especially via a comprehensive transformation of farming methods.

He stated that the state has not done anything to promote the agricultural sector in the right direction.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote in his speech, urged the Federal Government to review its policies on agriculture and industries to provide enabling environment for the creation of jobs.

According to Alhaji Dangote, the Federal government should to all it takes to solve the issues of power generation, stating that most of these industries collapsed largely due to inadequate power supply.

He noted that it is understandable that the government cannot single handedly meet the job needs of all citizens, but it was their responsibility to create an enabling environment for people to engage in self-employment.
