Nigerian Professor in ABU Zaria ‘Develops New Malaria Vaccine’.

A new malaria vaccine has been produced by a professor in the Biochemical Parasitology Department of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Nasiru Shua’ibu, so as to reduce the high cases of deaths from malaria fever.

While speaking to our source in Zaria, Kaduna State on Tuesday, Mr Shu’aibu made it clear that the newly developed malaria vaccine is by far different from other current being used.

Mr. Shu’aibu who is at the moment working with the Institute of Tropical Medicine, located in Japan, made it known that the results gotten from the research would soon be made available for Nigerians to use.

“I will try and explain it in a term that everyone can understand because the contents is a difficult one, it is called the DNA Vaccine.

“It’s an absolutely new technology for the discovery and also delivery of vaccine against any kind of infectious diseases that was worked on in the early 1990s.

“I am still doubting the tools that are currently being used aren’t enough to a high impact that is needed to get rid of the malaria crisis in Nigeria,” he said.


Mr Shu’aibu stated that there is an absolute need to keep an active eye on the growing resistance to anti-malarial drugs and insecticides.

He stated that if it is not properly checked, it would ruin all the years of world public health success and also investments in the control of malaria.
