Nigerian Army arrests 17 Bandit informants, Logistics Suppliers

Eight bandits have been captured alongside 17 bandits’ informants and logistics suppliers were arrested by troops of Operation HARBIN KUNAMA III, 8 Division of the Nigerian Army.

Major Gen Hakeem Otiki, who is the General Officer Commanding, GOC of the Division, made this known while speaking to journalists in Sokoto on Friday.

He stated that a total of five camps belonging to bandits were destroyed alongside 25 motorcycles belonging to the bandits. The GOC praised all members of the various vigilante groups and local hunters for their support to troops operating in their villages and communities.

Maj. Gen. Otiki emphasized that the operation which was launched on the 1st of April, 2019 in Gusau, Zamfara State, with the activities covering the areas of Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States, has brought back confidence to the residents to remain and stay calm in their villages and carry on with their normal activities.

He recalled that troops and logistics were gotten from various divisions of the Nigerian Army and sent out to tackle bandits escaping out of Zamfara into the neighbouring states.

“With the stronger efforts by the Army Headquarters, increased collaboration with other security agencies which includes the Nigerien Armed Forces, most especially in the areas of joint border patrols, the dynamics of the operation has assumed a new dimension thereby yielding more positive results,” he said.
