NEMA: Kaduna 2018 flood victims supplied with relief materials

On Monday, the government of Kaduna State, commenced the sharing of livelihood relief item to those affected by the 2018 flood hazard donated by the National Emergency Management Agency.

It was reported that 20,222 people were displaced by flood in 60 communities across 14 LGAs of Kaduna State in 2018.

Over 12,000 houses were destroyed alongside many farmlands amounting to over N4.6 billion were lost during the period.

The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai during the distribution ceremony stated that all affected victims would receive appropriate support from government.

The governor who was physically represented by the Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, Ben Kure, stated that the state government really appreciates what NEMA is doing to support the victims. It shows how much the agency cares.

The items to be donated to the victims includes: 250 sewing machines, 250 water pumps and 250 grinding machines.

Residents were advised to always clean their drainages and make sure that they respect early warning signals on flooding, issued by the agency.

Isaiah Chinoko, who is the North West Zonal Coordinator NEMA, made it known that the flood of August to September 2018 damaged many properties which led to loss of means of livelihoods and jobs.

Chinoko urged victims not to sell the items but to put them to good use to sustain themselves during these hard times.
