Lassa Fever recorded in 27 States – Health Minster

Osagie Ehanire, who is the Minister for Health, has stated that about 27 states in Nigeria have recorded cases of Lassa Fever as at the last count recorded.

The Minister stated on Thursday during a meeting with the state health commissioners across the 36 states, at a two-day event which was organised by the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) in Abuja.

He also made known that there are measures carried out by the Federal Government on developing a vaccine against the deadly disease in partnership with a German research firm.

Not less than 16 people have so far died due to the disease in Ondo State, and about 84 cases have also been recorded since the beginning of the current year.

In Kano State, three victims were killed by the outbreak, which also includes a pregnant woman and two doctors, after they were all diagnosed at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

The Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control, (NCDC) stated that not less than 82 cases have been detected across Nigeria in 2020 with at least 14 deaths.

Mr Ehanire urged all Nigerians to make sure that the battle to tackle the outbreak is not left for the government alone but a collaborative effort from all.
