Kajuru Killings: El-Rufai Appeals to Communities Against Retaliation

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, urged all communities in the state is ignore what he described as an eye for an eye stance in settling their differences.

While speaking to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at their camp in Maraban Kajuru in Kajuru LGA, the governor stated that the attitude of revenge would only cause more pain and suffering, hence he asks them to imbibe the spirit of togetherness and shun divisiveness.

A communique by Samuel Aruwan, who’s the governor’s spokesperson, stated that the governor has given orders to all concerned agencies to take a close look at the condition of the IDPs so that they can return to their communities as soon as possible.

The governor also stated that all communities must try to turn a blind eye to temptations of taking laws into their own hands noted that such move has never been found worthy and positive.

Governor El-Rufai also stated that it is not nice or advisable to create false stories and also politicize security challenges that can be solved with goodwill and law-abiding conduct by all parties.

“As a government, we will keep working hand in hand with security agencies, alongside traditional and religious institutions in peacebuilding, but we will be frank to our communities. They have once lived peacefully before these issue of trust and they can rekindle the glorious past by simply not taking the laws into their own hands.”

“We on our own part, we will do all what it takes to protect lives and properties. We will also not waste any time to apply the law to anyone found complicit in the violent communal conflicts, irrespective of their status, religion, ethnicity or political persuasions.”
