On Monday, the Kaduna State government made it known that it had spent N380.7 million on payments of National Examination Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) fees for a total of 33,750 students.

Ja’afar Sani, who is the state’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, stated this during an interview in Kaduna, explained that the amount was spent between the year 2016 and 2018.

Sani explained that a total of N363.6 million was spent on NECO examination fees for 32,032 students and N17.2 million on NABTEB fees for 1,716 students respectively.

He said that so many secondary school students drop out of school because they aren’t able to raise money to pay for NECO or NABTEB examination fees.

The commissioner stated that the government had to give these support to these students, particularly the girl child, and academically sound students, most especially those from poor families.

“The Kaduna State government has made education free from primary one to junior secondary school, and free education for the girl child up to senior secondary school to help reduce financial stress on parents.

The commissioner stated that the Kaduna State government would do its best to always support parents in the educational development of their children towards building a learned population, which will help in contributing to the development of the state.
