Kaduna Dry Port to Provide over 24,000 Jobs – Bello

Mr. Hassan Bello, the executive secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, has revealed that almost 24,000 job would be created directly when the Kaduna Dry Port is linked to Niger Republic and Chad.

Mr. Bello stated this during the flag-off of the Cargo delivery by rail to the Kaduna Dry Inland Ports in Kaduna, said “about 24,000 direct jobs would be created from this project. That is if we are able to connect Niger Republic and Chad to make use of the port as destination port for their cargo, it would have a multiplier effect for Kaduna and its environs.

“Then the port in Apapa and Tincan Island will be disconnected and we won’t be having the gridlock we are experiencing at the moment.”

While speaking on the efficiency of the rail line, the boss of the shippers council stated that the movement of containers all the way from Lagos to Kaduna would take two days and each trip would bring in 20 to 24 containers.

At the moment we have about 24 wagons and they are bringing about 24 container on each trip that they make.

The trips per week will be twice. If it originally cost N700,000 to bring 20ft container to Kaduna from Lagos by road, it would be almost 40% to 50% less by rail.
