KADUNA: Customs seize 40 vehicles stocked with illegal goods

Zone B of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit (FOU), has seized some good which has a duty value, (DPV) of N68.3 million in the first 41 days of 2019.

Mustafa Sarkin-Kebbi, who is the Comptroller in Charge of the zone, made this known in Kaduna on Monday that the seizures were carried out between 1st of January and 10th of February.

The items listed includes 1,412 bags of parboiled rice, 40 vehicles, which includes the ones used in conveying the seized goods, and also 65 cartons of spaghetti.

Other items that were also seized includes 111 Jerry cans of vegetable oil, 46 bales of second hand clothes, 333 pieces of used tyres and other sundry items.

FOU Zone ‘B’ takes care of activities in Kaduna/Katsina, Kano/Jigawa, Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara, Niger/Kwara/Kogi states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) commands.

The comptroller promised to do more in discharging his duties and issued out warnings against any kind of smuggling, stating that the command has no tolerance at all for smuggled goods.

He urged citizens to stay away from any act that would sabotage the economy which includes evasion of duty payment on goods.

“We are not going to stop impounding all of such smuggled goods and make sure that all those who are involved are made to face justice accordingly.”
