HEALTH: Lagos records first case of Lassa fever

One case of Lassa Fever was recorded in Lagos State on Tuesday, Akin Abayomi, the state’s commissioner of health, has stated.

The commissioner made this known via his Twitter handle @ProfAkinAbayomi, stating that the case was confirmed on Tuesday and the patient is currently in isolation and receiving treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH.

He also further added that the state’s ministry of health via its epidemiology, biosecurity and global health directorate has started contact tracing so to determine those who may have been infected with the disease.

Since the disease outbreak in the month of January, this is the first confirmed case of the disease reported in Lagos.

Since 2017 when two people died of the disease, this is the first case recorded.

With the latest confirmed case of the disease, the state has commenced a routine contact tracing, an exercise often necessary to tackle the spread of the disease.
