State owned female football team Kaduna Queens players are been groomed to become shinning stars in the future that would make not just the state proud, but the entire country and the African continent.
Board member of the team, Honourable Hadiza Yahuza, who is also the Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairperson Chikun LGA, Kaduna State expressed this while fielding questions from newsmen after she paid a surprise visit to the team while training on Sunday evening.
Honourable Yahuza said she sees several potential stars that would feature for the Super Falcons and several clubs internationally among the girls.
“This is why we are investing in them, so that they can become great players known all over the world in the future,” she added.
She explained that they just came back from a competition and she was impressed by their performance, even though she believes that in the future they would do better
“The young girls have just come back from a competition, by the time they go again, we believe they will do better'” she added.
She assured that herself alongside other board members of Kaduna Queens are doing our best in ensuring that the welfare of the girls are adequately taken care of.
Also fielding questions, Vice chairman of the club, Comrade Umar Saleh, popularly known as coach said that they saw the need to float a female professional team and bought a slot.
“We decided to buy a slot of the female team because Kaduna doesn’t have one. With the contributions of our Senatorial Candidate Kaduna Central, and advice he is giving to his Excellency, we know we would do better in sports and other aspects,” he added.
Speaking exclusively to our correspondent, Kaduna Queens Team Coordinator, Coach Aminu K. Shuaibu Makarfi said that they just arrived from the Aiteo Femake Cupwhere they were elimibated in the round of 16.
“We just came back from Aiteo Federations Cup where we crashed out in Edo State at the round of 16,” he said.
On the successes recorded by the team, he said it has been so far, so good.
“We also participated in the Nigerian Female Professional League, where we finished second in our group in Abuja centre,” he said.
On why they crashed out in the Round of 16 in the Aiteo Cup, he blamed it on insufficient preparations.
“The issue is that they tried their best but lack of preparation on time affected our chances in Aiteo Cup. Next season, the team will prepare well,” he assured.
He appealed to the state government to take charge and full sponsorship of the team, disclosing that presently, the board members are solely responsible for the team’s funding.
“We call on the government to assist in that aspect. We really thank the board members for their support because they put everything in order, especially Hajiya Hadiya Yahuza who is a board member and the Vice Chairman, Comrade Umar Saleh popularly known as Coach and the Kaduna State FA Chairman, Alhaji Sheriff Abdullahi Alkassim who is also making efforts to ensure that the team is doing well.
It was reliably gathered that the team which is owned by the Kaduna State Government is presently being sponsored by the board members.
