Gov Fayose Arrests Cow, as herdsmen Abscond for Violating Anti-Grazing Law.
On Thursday, the executive governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, took a group of security men to make sure that the new anti-grazing law is been respected, when he came across herdsmen going against the law.
The law frowns against open grazing, most especially outside the selected areas and after 6:00 pm.
Lere Olayinka, who is the Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communication and New Media, made it clear that the cattle were seen grazing along the Ado-Afao road.
He further said that the two herdsmen responsible for grazing the cows immediately disappeared into the bush, one of them was arrested after they were both given a hot chase.
Today, the governor was heading to Ikole Ekiti, and then he came across two herdsmen along the Afao Ekiti road, Ado Ekiti,” he stated.
“The governor displayed seriousness of the anti-grazing bill for the state, when he made sure that one of the cows was arrested by the youths who chased the cows and herdsmen. The remaining cows ran into the bush too.”
The spokesperson of the governor also made it known that the Ekiti Grazing Enforcement Marshals (EGEM) will commence work in some few days to come.
The law was introduced after the incident that took place in March at Oke Ako in Ikole local government, where two persons were murdered in the middle of the night by herdsmen.
