Reelected President, Muhammad Buhari has asked his supporters not to gloat over his political rivals or humiliate them on the account of his victory at the poll
The President made the call during his acceptance speech as the President elect in his campaign headquarters in Abuja, on Wednesday 27,February 2019.
While thanking his supporters for ensuring his victory at the poll, President pledged to unite the country, restructure the country and fight corruption as well.
Analysts have posited that President’s speech seem more conciliatory, guarded and peaceful than his normal firebrand speeches
“I will like to make a special appeal to my supporters not to gloat or humiliate the opposition. Victory is enough reward for your efforts.
We give thanks also to our Domestic and International observers for contributing to the success of our elections and for their interest in our country and our developing democracy.
The new Administration will intensify its efforts in Security, Restructuring the Economy and Fighting Corruption. We have laid down the foundation and we are committed to seeing matters to the end. We will strive to strengthen our unity and inclusiveness so that no section or group will feel left behind or left out.”
Meanwhile, his main challenger, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic party ( PDP), Atiku Abubakar has rejected the result of the election and has headed for the court to challenge what he described as ‘premeditated rigging’.
Atiku in a speech today, alleged the election was rigged.
“It is clear that there were manifest and premeditated malpractices in many states which negate the results announced,” he said. “I hereby reject the result of the February 23, 2019, sham election and will be challenging it in court.”
One obvious red flag was that states in the northeast ravaged by insurgents’ attacks generated much higher voter turnouts than peaceful states, Atiku said.
Meanwhile, Dr.SaniAdamu, founder of Deservation. Org has lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) ,for systematically rigging the election in favor of
President. He however ,assured Nigerians that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will be next president after the judicial process .
