BREAKING: Kano state PDP rejects supplementary election

In Kano State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has rejected the ongoing supplementary election taking place in the states’ 28 local government areas.

Rabiu Bichi, who is the Chairman of PDP in the state, while addressing journalists in Kano State made it clear that the party is rejecting the elections because it was characterized by violence and intimidation of voters.

The Chairman said he had told the Police command in the state on Friday, accusing the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), of ferrying in armed thugs from neighbouring states.

“What we have today is not an election. Most polling units have been taken over by thugs who are constantly attacking our members and voters.

“As we speak, so many have been injured, also a member of the state Assembly who is representing Gwale, Yusuf Babangida on election duty was attacked and seriously injured.

“There have also been reports that our members were attacked in Doguwa, Gwale and Dala, we are collecting the whole list of those attacked,” he said.

The Chairman of the PDP said the party would seek legal action.

“Our rights are going to be pursued via legal means. Today is definitely a sad day for Nigerian democracy, most especially in Kano.

“It would be recalled that governorship elections were held on March 9th not just in Kano but all over Nigeria as a whole.

“After the election was conducted, results from 43 out of 44 local governments were announced and we were leading, results from Nasarawa local government were pending and that was because the state deputy governor, the commissioner for LG and chairman of Nasarawa LG led some thugs to attack the collation center and disrupt the process by damaging the result sheet.

“That is the reason why INEC has called for a supplementary election. The Nigerian constitution doesn’t know anything supplementary election; all I know is that we have won our election. What is happening in Kano today is simply foolishness,” he stated.
