BREAKING: Coronavirus: Kaduna Govt extends quarantine period by 30 days

The Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has increased the quarantine period being enforced in the state for a period of 30 days. Muyiwa Adeleke, who is the Governor’s spokesperson made this known in a statement.

This decision by the Governor came after a recommendation from the standing committee on Covid-19, which is led by Hadiza Balarabe, who’s the Deputy Governor of the state. Starting from 26th April 2020.

Due to the rising cases of the disease in neighboring states and the FCT, and clear evidence shows that interstate travel is a major means of spreading the virus, and the decision by the standing committee is to protect the Kaduna State residents with more vigorous enforcement.

The earlier restriction of movements which is relaxed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays has been reduced to only a day.

“From now on, the lockdown-free day will only be on Wednesdays, until there is a significant change of the Covid-19 infections.

“All persons coming out from their homes for any reason at all must put on facemasks and do everything possible to maintain social distancing wherever they go, either in markets or in authorized vehicles.

The Government is doing all it can to provide facemasks for the poor and vulnerable residents and urge everyone who can afford it to do so or tell their tailors to help make them cloth facemasks which they can wash after use.

Schools, places of worship, event centers, sports grounds, bars, restaurants, etc and all other places that attract large crowds remain closed until further notice.

“Mobile Courts have also been created to try violators and also to impose the prescribed penalties, which include fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of vehicles, upon when convicted.

“The Kaduna State Government wishes to inform potential donors that we prefer donations to be in kind: personal protective equipment, PCR machines, medical facilities and equipment, facemasks, food, pharmaceuticals, and fertilizer, seeds and seedlings and other support for farmers. The state government will publicly acknowledge all donations in addition to the letters of appreciation that shall be sent to all donors.”
