BREAKING: APC loses Zamfara Governorship seat as Supreme Court rules against party

The nation’s ruling party, finally has lost its bid to govern Zamfara state following a Supreme Court ruling.

The current and outgoing governor of the state is from the APC.

On Friday, the Supreme Court ruled that the APC did not carry out a valid primaries in preparation to the 2019 general elections in Zamfara.

The Supreme court went on to validate the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division, which ruled that no valid primaries were conducted by the APC in Zamfara State.

The Supreme Court through a unanimous judgement carried out by a five-member panel on Friday decided that a party that had no valid candidate cannot be said to have emerged winner in the just concluded general elections.

The court also ordered a fine of N10 million against the APC.

“The candidate who has the highest number of votes aside the first appellant stand elected. The appellant has been fined the sum of N10 million,” the court ruled.

Mukhtar Idris, is the candidate of the APC, and was earlier declared winner after he polled 534,541 votes despite controversies trailing his candidacy.

The Candidate of the PDP is believed to have come second place with the number of votes he poled and could now be declared the governor-elect in the state.

The ruling goes further and affects all APC Zamfara House of Assembly candidates who were earlier declared winners of their elections.
