ASUU Strike: Lecturers walks out of meeting with Federal Govt

Representatives of ASUU on Monday walked out from a meeting held with the delegation of the Federal Government.

The Fedral Government delegation was led by Chris Ngige, who is the Minister of Labour and Employment.

Irrespective of the walk out, the minister gave an expression of optimism that the strike would soon be called off.

The strike was embarked upon on the 4th of November, demanding for a proper funding of universities and implementation of previous agreements with the government.

Biodun Ogunyemi, who is the National President of ASUU, led the union’s delegation to the meeting on Monday.

Mr. Adamu Adamu, the minister of Education was absent as at the time the meeting began.

Before the walk out was made, Mr. Chris Ngige stated to the lecturers that he hope that they can reach a concensus on most of the matters at the end of the meeting.

After the lecturers walked out, journalist were not briefed on the reason for their action.

The National President of ASUU, Mr Ogunyemi, did not make any comment as regards to what happened.

The minister on the other hand who spoke to journalists after ASUU members walked out, did not state the grievances of the lecturers. He however made an expression of optimism that the strike would be called off very soon.
