ASUP to commence an Indefinite Nationwide Strike December 12

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has made a declaration that it would be commencing an indefinite strike from 12th of December.

Lecturers of Polytechnic will be joining their colleagues from the universities who have been on strike for a month.

The National President of ASUP, Usman Dutse, during a telephone conversation with our source, made it known that the federal government had failed to meet the demands of the polytechnic lecturers.

Before this coming strike, the union had earlier given a 21-day ultimatum to the government on the 2nd of October, before it extended it to November. But even then, it did not commence the strike.

But Mr. Dutse made it clear that it would be an indefinite and total strike action.

“This step further emphasizes the agreement reached during the 93rd National Executive Council meeting at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos last week,” he said.

“Government has not lived to its expectations in fulfilling the agreements it reached with the union as contained in the memorandum of understanding signed,” he said.
