2020 WASSCE: May/June Examination not cancelled – WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has urged all Nigerians to ignore reports going around claiming that the council has canceled the 2020 May/June West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This was contained by the statement made by the head of WAEC, Nigeria, Patrick Areghan, on Monday, stating that the alleged cancellation of 2020 WASSCE did not emanate from it.

The council described the publication as “patently false and deceitful.”

According to the council, “It has come to our notice of a fake publication going round social media, stating that WAEC has cancelled the conduct of the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic and would make a refund of  N22,500 to candidates who had enrolled for the examination.

“To start with, the fee for the said examination is N13,950 only and not N22,500. WAEC, as an examining body in the sub-region, has not announced the cancellation of the examination,” the council stated.

The council also made it known that it will introduce a new International Timetable for the smooth conduct of the examination in the West African sub-region once the situation returns to normal. Candidates are, therefore, advised to disregard the publication and concentrate on studying hard for the examination,” the council said.
