2019 Polls: Kaduna Tribunal receives 18 Petitions

The Chairman of National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Kaduna State, Justice A. H. Suleiman, made it known that the tribunal has gotten 18 petitions from candidates who aren’t satisfied with how the just-concluded elections 2019 polls in the state turned out.

Mr. Suleiman who spoke to newsmen and lawyers during the tribunal inaugural sitting on Thursday in Kaduna, stated that among the petitions 10 were in connection to the February 23 National Assembly elections, while eight were for the March 9 State House of Assembly poll.

He also sent out warnings that the non-availability of parties and their Counsel will not stop proceedings of the tribunal.

He made emphasis that “the parties and Counsel are forewarned to desist from engaging in any means that would hinder the administration of justice.

“With this, any form of influencing the tribunal in anyways should be totally avoided as such moves shall be severely dealt with according to the law. “

“All form of communications should take place in the open court. This is a way to make sure that justice is not only done, but also seen to be done.

“All Counsels should portray a high standard of professional conduct and etiquette.

The chairman also stated that the tribunal would seat daily including weekends until all the cases are fully concluded.

“As for us as Judicial Officers, we are all under an oath to carryout justice without any fear or favor, affection or ill-will,” he said.

Due to the enormous petitions before the tribunal, we shall adopt and seriously adhere to the following:

 “The sitting of the Tribunal will always begin at exactly 9:00am every day and may as well extend to the night.

“The sitting will be on a day to day basis and may also include weekends and public holidays.”
